Home Depot has acquired SIMPL Automation, a Massachusetts-based warehouse technology firm, as it works to make same-day and next-day delivery a reliable rather than aspirational offering.
SIMPL’s systems handle both goods-to-person and person-to-goods workflows, along with vertical lift modules designed for high-density storage. A pilot at Home Depot’s Locust Grove, Georgia facility showed faster pick speeds and reduced product handling — enough to greenlight the acquisition.
The deal extends a multi-year supply chain build-out that has added close to 200 facilities across fulfillment and distribution. SIMPL’s storage tech allows Home Depot to pack more product variety into existing warehouse footprint, pushing a wider assortment closer to customers without additional real estate.
